On the occasion of Infinigate\u2019s 30th<\/sup> Anniversary (1996 \u2013 2026), celebrating 3 decades of sparking growth for the IT channel, we caught up with Infinigate\u2019s co-founder, David Martinez<\/a> who had the vision, conviction and passion to turn his ideas into reality back in 1996. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born and resident in Switzerland, David is an investor and entrepreneur with a passion for technology and a true international mindset supported by his impressive ability to switch fluently between multiple languages, from English and German to Spanish and Italian. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

David speaks with candor and honesty about the journey and the early days of Infinigate, the challenges and highlights. Much has changed but\u00a0the passion\u00a0remains.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

David<\/strong>:\u00a0\u201c30\u00a0years! When\u00a0we\u00a0founded Infinigate\u00a0we\u00a0had\u00a0high ambitions\u00a0for it and believed it had high\u00a0potential\u00a0but\u00a0we\u00a0did not\u00a0anticipate\u00a0it would grow at double digit rate for 30 years.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a proud moment for me, as the company reaches 30 and still holds true to its original cybersecurity specialism and to its promise to generate growth for\u00a0vendor\u00a0and channel partners. I am grateful to all the employees and partners who have made this extraordinary journey possible. I will keep watching for the next chapter in\u00a0Infinigate\u2019s\u00a0evolution – the opportunity for growth is still there for the taking. Congratulations to all!\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet\u2019s\u00a0go back to the beginning. What\u00a0inspired you to create Infinigate?\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David<\/strong>:\u00a0\u201cI have always had a passion for technology\u00a0and\u00a0always kept a close watch on the IT market and new\u00a0tech trends.\u00a0The Internet was a\u00a0brand-new\u00a0phenomenon\u00a0and\u00a0there was much debate on whether it would\u00a0take off or fizzle out.\u00a0I was convinced it was going to be the\u00a0\u2018next big thing\u2019,\u00a0so I\u00a0focussed\u00a0our\u00a0consultancy-based\u00a0business\u00a0on\u00a0it.\u00a0In the early days of the company, which was originally called \u2018Internet 2000\u2019 \u2013 we\u00a0focussed\u00a0on providing companies with browsers,\u00a0HTML\u00a0and email\u00a0programmes\u00a0to access the Internet.\u00a0The emphasis was not yet on cybersecurity, with cyber-criminals not yet active, but\u00a0about helping businesses to join the Internet.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Where does the Infinigate name originate?<\/strong>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u201cWe changed the name of the company after the year 2000.\u00a0Essentially it\u00a0is a contraction of \u2018infinite gate\u2019 \u2013 alluding to\u00a0limitless\u00a0access to the world of the internet, which was our business to enable.\u00a0The name is still relevant as now no longer merely provide\u00a0access\u00a0but we secure it! Much more important in today\u2019s online landscape.\u00a0The original Infinigate logo was inspired by the sci-fi series\u00a0<\/em>Stargate<\/em><\/a>, which some may remember \u2013 where access to new worlds was enabled\u00a0through special gates.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What was your toughest challenge?<\/strong>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David:<\/strong> \u201cThe\u00a0dot.com bubble<\/a>\u00a0crash\u00a0at the beginning of the 2000s, following the\u00a0dot.com boom\u00a0was of course a serious challenge for many online and communication businesses\u00a0and for\u00a0some a\u00a0fatal one. We downsized\u00a0and restructured\u00a0to\u00a0navigate\u00a0through that difficult period.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Did you\u00a0anticipate\u00a0cybersecurity would become such a prominent trend?<\/strong>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David<\/strong>:\u00a0\u201cCyber criminality only\u00a0emerged\u00a0after the dot.com crisis, with a few cyber-attacks making the headlines.\u00a0That is when we decided to make cybersecurity our focus and specialism.\u00a0After a few years, with growth rates of 20-30%,\u00a0it became clear this was a high growth\u00a0sector\u00a0so we switched our focus to be entirely on cybersecurity.\u00a0Even then it was not easy to hire specialists,\u00a0highly-qualified tech specialists have always been a precious commodity\u00a0\u2013 but we persevered and made it our differentiator.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What new tech trends do you expect to become dominant going forward?<\/strong>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cCybersecurity will continue to be relevant, especially as AI enables\u00a0more sophisticated cyber-attacks\u00a0but also more effective\u00a0defences.\u00a0Speaking of AI, of course, this is another invasive technology that will\u00a0colour\u00a0and infuse every aspect of our digital lives.\u00a0As with all\u00a0technologies\u00a0we need to understand it and learn to use it\u00a0to our advantage. Protecting our businesses and our data\u00a0integrity, both as businesses and as consumers, has become a paramount concern.\u00a0The onus\u00a0is on\u00a0expert consultants to provide\u00a0accurate\u00a0and helpful cybersecurity advice\u00a0in an increasingly complex landscape.\u00a0it\u00a0is an important task and a big responsibility\u00a0\u2013 one that Infinigate continues to embrace.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What is your advice as an experienced and successful\u00a0entrepreneur\u00a0to budding\u00a0business moguls out there?<\/strong>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David<\/strong>:\u00a0Let conviction and passion fuel your progress. Without\u00a0those\u00a0it is hard to foster a successful enterprise.\u00a0Believe in your insights and intuition and communicate your enthusiasm for your dream. Positivity\u00a0is infectious. Lead by example.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
