Switch to MSSP now! 2 mins read | Published on 13. March 2025 Vendor-News Why the change from MSP to MSSP? Depending on how you operate your managed services and the extent to which your offerings include security configuration, monitoring, and response, you might say about managed services: “We’re already doing some of that.” Most MSPs today: Use of an endpoint detection and response (EDR) tool on all end devices. These are usually cloud-based and offer a central console for alerts, incidents, endpoint/identity response measures and often also threat hunting functions. Manage email hygiene and security too. Phishing emails are still the most common route of attack for attackers, so strong email hygiene is of paramount importance. Manage IAM and identities, including the provision of multi-factor authentication (MFA). Forward-thinking MSP are deploying eXtended Detection and Response (XDR) solutions that consolidate email, endpoint, cloud applications and identity security into a single console and manage alerts across IT. Some MSP even use a security information and event management (SIEM) solution to extend the XDR platform and incorporate third-party log sources to increase visibility. If on-site firewalls are required, they are usually already managed by the MSP, and if a cloud SWG is used, the MSP also configures the rules. Zero Trust networks and VPN are also set up and configured by the MSP. Some MSP offer this as part of their package without explicitly mentioning it, while others offer a basic IT package that is supplemented by a security package. However, this is not always successful because if basic security is not included, it is only a matter of time before the cost of remediating a security breach far exceeds the cost of the security package. Making the transition from an MSP to an MSSP has some significant benefits, such as increased credibility in the marketplace and revenue streams, as well as the ability to remain the “can do” IT provider for your clients. The market for security services is growing worldwide and is expected to double in the coming years. Don’t let the complexity of cybersecurity threats hold your organisation back. With 365 Multi-Tenant Manager for MSPs from Hornetsecurity, you can seamlessly transition from MSP to MSSP, expand your service portfolio and protect your customers.Want to learn more?
