What does SASE stand for?

SASE stands for Secure Access Services Edge. The term was coined by market research firm Gartner, which defines SASE as cloud-based and service-oriented. It brings together various technologies (including SD-WAN, NGFW, CASB, SWG, ZTNA) to respond to changing working conditions.

Standardisation

SASE currently lacks a universal standard like IPSec. That means different vendors may implement slightly different architectures.
The MEF Forum has proposed guidelines, but adoption is not mandatory.
